Several folks including Don
West, Dean Camlin, and Eddie Brooks organized a candle light vigil at
JeannieBird Baking Company, 42 West Main Street, in Westminster, MD.

Hats off to these community
leaders for their thoughtfulness. Carroll County always comes together and we
are there for one another.

A big thanks to Don, Dean,
and Eddie. Beautifully done.

And a special thanks to Thomas Kowalczyk and Rad Darby who
also stopped to help out and pay their respects. First class.

I'll post a few pictures from the event later.

Opening words by Don West

Song by Dean Camlin

Song by Eddie Brooks – I’ll
fly away.

"I'll Fly Away"

Some bright morning when this
life is over
I'll fly away
To that home on Gods
celestial shore
I'll fly away

I'll fly away, oh glory
I'll fly away in the morning
When I die hallelujah by and
by
I'll fly away

When the shadows of this life
have gone
I'll fly away
Like a bird from these prison
walls I'll fly
I'll fly away

I'll fly away, oh glory
I'll fly away in the morning
When I die hallelujah by and
by
I'll fly away

Oh how glad and happy when we
meet
I'll fly away
No more cold iron shackles on
my feet
I'll fly away

I'll fly away oh glory
I'll fly away in the morning
When I die hallelujah by and
by
I'll fly away

I'll fly away oh glory
I'll fly away in the morning
When I die hallelujah by and
by
I'll fly away

Just a few more weary days
and then
I'll fly away
To a land where joys will
never end
I'll fly away

I'll fly away oh glory
I'll fly away in the morning
When I die hallelujah by and
by
I'll fly away
I'll fly away

The Westminster Fire Co
extends its sympathy to the family of Jeannie Vogel of JeannieBird Baking Co
who died in today’s traffic accident.

Prayer by Westminster Fire
Dept. Chaplain

Ms. Vogel was a lovely person
who steadfastly supported the Westminster community and the Westminster Fire
Department. We lift Jeannie and her family, co-workers, and friends into our
hearts and pray for comfort and healing at this terrible time. She will be
greatly missed.

On behalf of the men and
woman of the Westminster Volunteer Fire Department

The Westminster Fire Engine
and Hose Company No.1 extends its sympathy to the family and loved ones of
Jeannie Vogel of the JeannieBird Baking Co., our neighbor on Main St in
Westminster, who died in yesterday’s traffic accident.

O god of grace and glory, we
remember before you today our sister Jeannie Vogel

We thank you for giving her
to us to know and to love as a companion in our pilgrimage on earth and our
service to our community.

Our thoughts and prayers are
with the family at this very difficult time.

Those we love don't go away.
They walk beside us every day, Unseen, unheard, but always near, Still loved,
still missed and very dear.

May memories of happy times
sustain us, the support of family and friends comfort us, and may God's love
embrace you and your family and bring you peace.

In your boundless compassion,
console us who still mourn.

Give us faith to see that
death has been swallowed up in the victory of our Lord, so that we may live in
confidence and hope until, by your call, we are gathered to our heavenly home
in the company of all your saints.

+++++++++

We also say a prayer for the
firefighters, EMS personnel, state highway workers, and police officers who
left their homes in the middle of night to respond to this terrible accident.
They fought the fire, freezing temperatures, ice, and multiple dangers of the
accident this morning at Rte. 27 and Kate Wagner Road.

God of earth and air, water
and fire, height and depth, we pray for those who work in danger,

Who rush in to bring hope and
help and comfort when others flee to safety,

Whose mission is to seek and save,
serve and protect, and whose presence embodies the protection of the Good
Shepherd.

Give them caution and concern
for one another, so that in safety they may do what must be done, under your
watchful eye.

Support them in their courage
and dedication that they may continue to save lives, ease pain, and mend the
torn fabric of lives and social order. Amen.

SYKESVILLE — Carroll County should have its first speed cameras installed this year following the Sykesville Town Council's vote tonight (Monday) to approve a speed camera ordinance.

At its meeting at the Town House and after a second public hearing, the council voted 5-1 in favor of speed cameras. Mayor Mike Miller and council members Leslie Reed, Frank Robert Jr., Ian Shaw and Chris True voted in favor while Councilman Leo Keenan voted against. Councilman Scott Sanzone was absent.

"I'm ecstatic," Police Chief John Williams Jr., told The Eagle. "Time and time again, the number one issue in our town is speeding, speeding, speeding."

The town expects to operate three mobile speed camera units in three school areas/zones for speed cameras:

• Ava Wanas Montessori School, 7590 College Road;

• Springfield Presbyterian School/Stepping Stones Pre-School, 7300 Spout Hill Road; and

• Sykesville Middle School, 7301 Springfield Ave.

If hell owned an airline, Route 140 would be its landing strip.

DAYHOFF: Please enjoy Honoring the 'Hell Drivers of Taneytown,' in 1948 and today

Eagle Archive By Kevin Dayhoff

This month in history, 51 years to be exact, Taneytown bore witness to a "Dive Bomber Crash" at the fairgrounds.

A story in an October 1948 newspaper offers this exciting preview:

"The amazing 'Dive Bomber' crash, in which a daredevil sends a speeding stock sedan hurdling a two-ton truck and deliberately crashes his machine into a parked car, is listed as one of the featured thrillers scheduled at the Carroll County Fair grounds..."

[…]

What a hoot.

I must confess, I had never heard of the "Hell Drivers" before. In fact, I always thought "hell drivers" was a reference to the friendly folks with whom we "share" Route 140.

If hell owned an airline, Route 140 would be its landing strip.

[…]

If you have a death-defying story about driving on Route 140, don't just raise your finger, err, hand. Drop us a note or share it in the comment section on http://www.explorecarroll.com/.
