Ecobee3 Review - 6 Months Later
A review of the Ecobee3, how it compares to the Nest Learning Thermostat and why Ecobee's decision to bake Amazon's Alexa directly into the Ecobee4 could spell trouble for all of our smart homes. **Update** As of 11/14/17 Ecobee has now added Google Assistant Support: https://www.theverge.com/platform/amp... **Correction** I incorrectly stated that the remote sensors capture humidity data. Unfortunately only the thermostat itself captures indoor humidity data. For more information: Ecobee: https://www.ecobee.com

I wish Instagram would allow users to disable putting unwanted duplicate photos on Android phones
I wish Instagram would allow users to disable putting
unwanted duplicate photos on Android phones
Thursday, Sept. 29, 2016
Keep calm. Test is only a test. I am trying to figure out
how to stop my Instagram app from saving unwanted duplicate pictures on my S5
phone after I post a photograph.
I just researched how to stop Instagram from saving
duplicate pictures on my S5 phone
And, according to “Disabling
Instagram from Saving Pictures to a Phone,” by Diana V. Faustmann, Demand
Media – you cannot: http://classroom.synonym.com/disabling-instagram-saving-pictures-phone-17553.html
Ms. Faustmann writes, “The Instagram app works very
similarly on iPhones and Android phones. When it comes to saving the items you
shoot with the Instagram camera to the phone, though, there are a few
differences. Saving Instagram photos and videos is optional on iPhones and
compulsory on Android devices. Hence, you can prevent an iPhone, but not an
Android phone, from automatically saving Instagram photos.
[…]
… “As of January 2014, there’s no way to disable this
feature,” on an Android phone.
Candidly, it is almost a good reason to remove the app from
my phone. Just saying.

PCmag.com - Google Android 6.0 Marshmallow
Dec. 22, 2015 - So my ph is updating - Marshmallow 6.0 –
will this be like the nonsensically maddening Microsoft updates to my pc which
are not improvements
PCmag.com - Google Android 6.0 Marshmallow
October 27, 2015 from PC Mag… Retrieved Dec. 22, 2015
The
latest version of Google's Android operating system, 6.0 Marshmallow,
feels like it was written to address some things that annoyed users, and some
things that irked Google. For users, it's a sensible update that banishes
many of the real groan points about Android, such as its flawed way of
handling microSD memory and overactive apps that devour battery life. For
Google, meanwhile, it offers ways to encourage more people to search the Web
more often, which is the company's ultimate goal. It's a worthy update, for
sure, if not quite the sea change that Android 5.0
Lollipop was. That said, one big problem still remains: A
persistent fragmentation problem makes it likely that you will never
see Marshmallow on your current device. For that reason, Apple's iOS 9 remains
our Editors' Choice for mobile operating systems.

The awesome Theresa and Tom Bethune take a minute to answer a few questions about Freedom Broadband
The awesome Theresa
and Tom Bethune take a minute
to answer a few
questions about Freedom Broadband
at the 62nd St John #Christmas Bazaar
43 Monroe St
Westminster 8am-4pm Dec. 5, 2015
Freedom Broadband
Overview and History
Freedom Broadband began as Freedom Wireless Broadband in
January of 2007 to provide cost effective Internet service to under-served
areas in Carroll County. The company started
with a location in Eldersburg, MD and a communications tower in Hampstead, MD,
and grew by leveraging grain elevators, silos and homes to reach locations not
served by wired providers available at that time.
From 2007 until February of 2015, the company expanded
service to Manchester, Mt. Airy, Gamber, Woodbine, and Hampstead, adding (4)
major communications towers, (4) municipal water towers, and numerous grain
elevators, silos and roof mounted access points
serving approximately 185 customers, including 48 farms and commercial
businesses.
In February of 2015, local resident Theresa Bethune
purchased Freedom Wireless Broadband and renamed the company “Freedom
Broadband.” As a customer in an
underserved part of Carroll County (ironically just 6 miles from Westminster,
Hampstead and Manchester), Theresa realized how many areas of Carroll and the
surrounding areas were left with few, if any viable broadband choices.
As a mother to a 13 year old boy and wife of
an Information technology professional, she also knew that life without
broadband was not viable for most families.
The purchase enabled the business to fund major network upgrades, as
well as to drive expansion into more areas throughout Carroll County and surrounding
counties.
Since February, 2015, Freedom Broadband has doubled our
available bandwidth and our customers send and receive more than 1 Terabyte
(TB) of data per day (equal to 1,000
gigabytes-GB, or 1,000,000 megabytes-MB) to/from the Internet each day. We have expanded capacity 400% at the
Manchester Water Tower and Lippy Brothers towers, and added new locations to
serve parts of Mayberry and the Jasontown/Uniontown Road areas. We
have planned tower climbs to grow our service areas in Taneytown and Mt.
Airy/Woodbine.
Together with our sister company, InfoPathways, Freedom
Broadband established a broadband connection to River Valley Ranch, and
deployed wireless infrastructure to improve their communications both on and
off the Ranch.
We are proud to support
4H and the Community Media Center, and provided both wireless infrastructure
and bandwidth to enable live streaming of 4H events.
Why do we do it?
Because we love Carroll County.
We enjoy the rolling countryside and beautiful farm lands. We want to connect people to each other and
the world at large, without forcing them to sacrifice their wooded retreats and
family homesteads. Every time we connect
someone new, we feel an amazing sense of accomplishment.
Our customers are our neighbors and friends – people we see at our local Farmer’s markets, at school or on the athletic fields, at our local restaurants, businesses and events that make our community a great place to live and work.

Windows Vista. In the following simple solution, I'll show you how to remove
the Register Photoshop prompt or notice once and for all and get you working
again without the annoying nag to register.
Read the rest of the solution here: http://www.lancelhoff.com/remove-the-register-photoshop-prompt/

Do not like new Gmail contacts preview Revert to google contacts old version Left-hand menu, click “more” then “leave the contacts preview”
I do not care for the new Gmail “contacts preview.” How
revert to google contacts old version… In the left-hand menu, click “more” and
then “leave the contacts preview”
It seems that when Google Gmail “helps me” and automatically
puts information in the name fields – it invariably puts the first, middle, and
last name in the incorrect fields – and then when I look it up in my Droid
phone, I cannot easily find the contact alphabetically – by last name… The new contacts
preview does not seem to allow the user to input the name fields.

In the end, the Windows 10 upgrade failed. No surprise here.
Update: One Win 10 upgrade fail. One success. Fail probably
due to a drive failure... On a different computer, the success is working
great.
Update 2 August 5, 2015: Two successes. One Win 10 upgrade

computers, the successes are working great.
A friend suggested, “Get an Apple.” I have an Apple and I
was a pathetic Apple immigrant. Threw my hands up the air and went back to PC.
But Caroline gets along with the Apple just great. Me, not so much. In the end,
I gotta get my work finished... My editors do not care what I use to write
stories - they just care that I get them written.

IF OPENING YOUR INBOX GIVES YOU A PANIC ATTACK, TRY THESE SIMPLE MOVES TO MAKE GMAIL FEEL MORE MANAGEABLE.
BY MADISON FELLER, LEVO LEAGUE
I’ll be honest—I’ve had mixed feelings about Gmail. Sometimes it’s fantastic, like when my best friend and I send each other cool links all morning while simultaneously talking on Gchat. But other times, as I’m watching my inbox fill up at the speed of light, it can just be overwhelming. Gmail and I have finally come to a mutually respectful relationship (think Kanye’s post-VMA apology to T-Swift), but it’s been a long road. These four hacks have paved the way, and once you’ve got them down, I promise Gmail will feel like a whole new ball game...

Rediscover Gmail Labels and Finally Tame Your Inbox

From one freelancer to another; I really appreciate your
work on http://www.makeuseof.com/
Thanks
Sooner or later, everyone’s Gmail inbox becomes an
overwhelming mess. There are plenty of tricks to deal with email overload, but
there’s one right under your nose that you might not be using: good old Gmail
labels.
Labels have been around for a long time now, so they have
almost become blind spots for many of us. I’ve been a Gmail user since its
inception, but I never used labels till recently. It has entirely changed how I
approach email, finally helping me tame my inbox.
Using labels successfully depends on a few core productivity
principles, just like any to-do management system. Here are the tricks that
helped me and can help you too.
Read more here: http://www.makeuseof.com/tag/rediscover-gmail-labels-finally-tame-inbox/
I routinely read many pieces on technology tips and hacks – and I really
appreciate the approach of Mr. Patkar.
