‘The Rodney Kelley Experience’ Friday, September 29, 2017 at 7:30 pm

Carroll County Arts Council in Westminster: A Night of Jazz & Blues with ‘The Rodney Kelley Experience’ Friday, September 29, 2017 at 7:30 pm

Scheduled: Friday, September 29, 2017     7:30 pm

Cost:  $20 advance / $25 day of the show

Location: The Carroll Arts Center, 91 West Main Street, Westminster, MD, 21157

The excitement of hot jazz and blues comes to the Carroll Arts Center with The Rodney Kelley Experience. One of the hardest working bands in the Baltimore metro area, The Rodney Kelley Experience appears regularly with high energy performances at area nightclubs, festivals, and corporate events; this will be the first visit by the quintet to the Westminster area.

Playing and performing on the guitar for over 35 years, Rodney Kelley has been committed to straight ahead jazz, his mainstay, but he has been known to not only dabble in contemporary jazz, some blues but also a bit of rock (Jimi Hendrix style). Easily switching from electric to acoustic guitar, and adding vocals on occasion, multi-talented Kelley is a fan of legendary jazz artist Wes Montgomery and excitedly admits the influence of the late master guitarist on his own performances. A phenomenal performer, Kelley frequently discusses the benefits of great live performance to build and continuing to grow the audience for jazz.

In the Baltimore area, The Rodney Kelley Experience has appeared at Artscape, Gordon Center for the Performing Arts, The National Aquarium, The Heritage Art Festivals, Harborplace, The Tremont Plaza Hotel, Clyburn Arboretum, WBFF TV, The Walters Art Gallery, School 33, Club 347, and for a number of corporations such as Baltimore Gas & Electric, The FOXO Corporation, and many others.

A Night of Jazz & Blues is the third presentation by WEAA FM’s Your Girl Cheryl & YGC Productions this year at the Carroll Arts Center that also brought the annual MOTOWN & MORE: The Legacy Lives production in April and saxophonist Art Sherrod, Jr in August. The final presentation, MOTOWN & MORE: A Holiday Celebration is scheduled for early December at the Carroll Arts Center.

Frank Solivan and Dirty Kitchen
NEW DATE! Saturday, January 31, 8 pm

FS&DK's newest release on Compass Records, COLD SPELL was recently nominated for a Grammy - BEST BLUEGRASS ALBUM!

Since Frank Solivan left the cold climes of Alaska for the bluegrass hotbed of Washington, D.C., he's built a reputation as a monster mandolinist - and become a major festival attraction with his band, Dirty Kitchen. Solivan and banjoist Mike Munford (2013 IBMA Banjo Player of the Year), guitarist Chris Luquette (IBMA Instrumentalist of the Year Momentum Award winner) and doghouse bassist Dan Booth simmer a bluegrass/newgrass stew from instrumental, vocal and songwriting skills so hot, they earned a three-peat 2012, 2013 and 2014 Best Bluegrass Band honors from the Washington Area Music Association. These individually brilliant musicians have combined their vocal and songwriting skills to make their new album, Cold Spell, into the perfect progressive album filled with instrumental virtuosity.

In the Tevis Gallery
On view October 6 - November 16, 2011
Artists’ Reception: Thursday, October 13, 5:30-7:30pm
Gallery Talk:  Thursday, October 20, noon and 7:00 pm

Figures. We all have them.  They come in different sizes and shapes, ages, colors and attitudes but they are all full of life, breath, flesh and bones.  “Full Figure” honors the human form in all its presence: moving, resting, thinking, working, posing. From the ancients until now, artists have been fascinated with creating likenesses of humans. Athletic poses, historic figures, balletic form, stylish and otherwise created in realism, abstract, painted, sculpted and mixed media will offer the viewer a glimpse of “us” and the glory of our “full figures.

One of the highlights will be a portrait of Anna Ella Carroll, after whose family, Carroll Country was named. This painting reveals a tour, not only through Civil War history, but a history of the artistic development of the human form as well.

Artists include:
Nancy Abeles, Washington DC
Walter Bartman, Braddock Heights, MD
Laura Era, Cambridge, MD
Peter Eide, New Windsor, MD
Sara Knox, Hagerstown, MD
Elaine Lozier, Bethesda, MD
Devin Mack, Towson, MD
