Thich Nhat Hanh—Living Mindfully, Living Peacefully
October 25, 2011
Warner Theatre
Washington, DC
Spend an evening with Thich Nhat Hanh, peace activist, poet, human rights advocate, and one of the most respected and recognized Zen masters in the world. In this inspiring talk and practice, you learn to see that if you are in the here and now, there are more than enough reasons to be happy. Even if there are things in the present that you dislike, there are still plenty of positive conditions for your happiness. For example, if you are walking in the garden and notice a tree is dying, you may feel so badly about that tree that you are unable to enjoy the rest of the beautiful garden. Will you allow one dying tree to destroy your appreciation of all other trees that are still alive, vigorous, and beautiful? Together we learn how to look again, see that the garden is indeed beautiful, and recognize that by living mindfully we can also live peacefully.http://eomega.org/omega/dc/tnh/?source=FBKAD.SEF.TNH.land&utm_source=facebook&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=thich-nhat-hanh-DC&utm_content=top-interests

Looking for Rainbows: Clearview-Tal & Acacia
Saturday, July 09, 2011
Hey Loves!
The time has actually come for me to leave for South Africa. I can’t believe it! I will be leaving Monday (my plane leaves at 5:30pm) and landing in the Johannesburg airport at 5:40pm Tuesday, then catching a connecting flight to Port Elizabeth and traveling another hour and a half to get to Grahamstown, where I will be living. I thought that Jon Kentner and I would be waving to each other in the Johannesburg airport as he leaves to go home, but he has extended his trip by two days, so I can focus on making my connection. My travel time (with the 7 hour time difference) should work out to be just under 24 hours—hopefully—and I would like to keep it that way...

This Day in Music, July 4: The Beatles Need Help!
In the 30 days of June, the four members of The Beatles had spent nine days at Abbey Road studios recording new songs, played five concerts, attended a nightclub opening, recorded radio interviews, rehearsed new songs at George Harrison’s house, released a new single “Paperback Writer”, made their last ever ‘live’ TV appearance, and spent a few days at 32,000 feet flying between the UK, Germany, and Japan.

On July 3, 1925, the now out-of-print American Sentinel reported the Fourth of July was celebrated with baseball, a carnival hosted by the Westminster Fire Engine and Hose Company No. 1, a parade, a dance and a community dinner.
“Saturday, July 4th, will be observed by the citizens and business men of this city by a complete suspension of business,” the paper reported. “Public offices, banks, mercantile houses, barbershops and newspaper offices will be closed and remain so until Monday morning July 6th.”
The baseball game took place “on the old field at Western Maryland College.” ... http://www.explorecarroll.com/community/5520/fourth-july-circa-1925-presented-whos-who-local-business/
