Lance Armstrong and King Sisyphus by Kevin E. Dayhoff http://tinyurl.com/cctpxp2

Lance Armstrong and King Sisyphus by Kevin E. Dayhoff http://tinyurl.com/cctpxp2

August 29, 2012

Last Thursday, the U.S. Anti-Doping Agency decided, without a single credible shred of evidence, that since professional cyclist Lance Armstrong did not prove himself to be innocent, he is guilty and could not have been successful in his storied career without the use of drugs.

Before Mr. Armstrong retired from professional cycling in February 2010, he had passed approximately 500 drug tests in his long, celebrated, and distinguished athletic career. It is believed that there has never-ever been a single positive test…

[…]

“There’s something very much of the feel of a witch hunt to this. If Armstrong was doping, then by God take away his awards and give him a medal for being the smartest damn athlete on the planet.”

… we live in an era where the purpose of government is to criminalize the successful. Whether you are successful in business, art, professional sports – or whatever, the basic tenant of government is that you simply must be guilty of something. The purpose of bureaucracy is to prove it.

Whether you are guilty or not is unimportant. For the government, what is critical is that you be accused. That’s all that is necessary. The media will take care of the rest – by suggestion, innuendo, and nefarious association.

Your job is to endeavor to prove that you are innocent. It is a task that makes the myth of Sisyphus look easy.

You remember Sisyphus. There are many interpretations and versions of the story – including my favorite, “The Myth of Sisyphus” by Albert Camus… http://www.thetentacle.com/ShowArticle.cfm?mydocid=5314

SYKESVILLE — Carroll County should have its first speed cameras installed this year following the Sykesville Town Council's vote tonight (Monday) to approve a speed camera ordinance.

At its meeting at the Town House and after a second public hearing, the council voted 5-1 in favor of speed cameras. Mayor Mike Miller and council members Leslie Reed, Frank Robert Jr., Ian Shaw and Chris True voted in favor while Councilman Leo Keenan voted against. Councilman Scott Sanzone was absent.

"I'm ecstatic," Police Chief John Williams Jr., told The Eagle. "Time and time again, the number one issue in our town is speeding, speeding, speeding."

The town expects to operate three mobile speed camera units in three school areas/zones for speed cameras:

• Ava Wanas Montessori School, 7590 College Road;

• Springfield Presbyterian School/Stepping Stones Pre-School, 7300 Spout Hill Road; and

• Sykesville Middle School, 7301 Springfield Ave.

Tiger Woods was a busy guy

Tiger Woods and Elin Nordegren briefly pose for a photoshop moment as the blond bombshell moves out of the marital home after being shell-shocked by serial accounts that Mr. Woods may have given as many as nine private golf lessons as to how to use his putter with a casting call for a reality TV show. – Artist-Photographer unknown – probably in hiding… Larger: http://twitpic.com/srqr0

By Kevin Dayhoff December 8, 2009

It appears that golfing great Tiger Woods may have been a busy guy in recent years. According to an article by Sophie Tedmanson in the Times (UK,) “More woes for Tiger Woods as his wife Elin Nordegren moves out” - Larger: http://twitpic.com/srrlz

“[I]t is alleged, “Woods, 33, has been linked to up to nine women - including a British television presenter – since it was first reported he crashed his Cadillac into a fire hydrant outside his home on November 27 after reportedly arguing with his wife.”

“Apparently, the only person who can beat Tiger Woods with a golf club is his wife.”
(There’s more from where that one came from – go here: http://tinyurl.com/yhgeaq8.)

The latest revelations begs the question, when did he ever have time to play golf?

Ms. Tedmanson writes, “Days after the crash Woods was linked to a New York night clubber, other women – including a Las Vegas party girl and a Florida waitress - began to come forward, selling their stories to tabloids with tales of trysts with Woods….”

Is this nuts or what. Have you seen pictures of his wife? Whiskey Tango Foxtrot. What could have he possibly been thinking? Or was his putter doing the thinking for him?

According to a December 7 article in the Times (UK) by Jacqui Goddard, “Best man speech could draw Tiger Woods out of hiding”:

“… [T]he golf champion [is alleged to have had] trysts with Rachel Uchitel, a New York nightclub hostess, including flying her to Melbourne for a secret rendezvous with Woods during the Australian Masters last month…

“Holly Sampson, a porn star, today became the seventh woman named as having had an affair with Woods, who has been married to Elin Nordegren, a Swedish model, since 2004.”

Perhaps that explains the mysteries behind his car crash into a tree and a fire hydrant in the wee hours of the morning of November 27, 2009 – The man was delirious with exhaustion.

“Tiger Woods crashed into a fire hydrant and a tree. He couldn’t decide between a wood and an iron." ibid)

Of course, having a five-iron stuck up his behind did not help to improve his driving ability at the time.
Meanwhile the Boston Herald’s “Inside Track” – “‘SNL’ battered over spoof of Tiger Woods spat” - is reporting that “Anti-domestic violence advocates beat up on NBC’s “Saturday Night Live” yesterday for a skit poking fun at reports that Tiger Woods was hit with a golf club by his enraged wife, Elin Nordegren.

“‘There’s nothing funny about this story, particularly if violence was part of the events that took place,’ said Rita Smith, president of the National Coalition for Domestic Violence . ‘It diminishes people’s support for victims of domestic violence.’

“Woods, who has been accused of 10 extramarital affairs in the wake of a car crash outside his Florida home Thanksgiving weekend, was skewered in the skit that featured ‘SNL’ regular Kenan Thompson, playing the golf great, and guest host Blake Lively as his angry Swedish wife.”

Whatever, I hardly ever watch Saturday Night Live and find very little about the otherwise popular late-night TV program to be funny.

But you know – the whole sad saga of Mr. Woods' fall from grace by his own Shakespearean personality defect just really isn’t funny.

It is not even just sad – it is a disappointment. It is disillusioning - it’s pathetic and probably a sign of pathology.

Is it more important than the rate of unemployment, the economy or the war in Iraq and Afghanistan? No.

Do I care? Nope.

However, looking at the bigger picture, the gentleman has a social contract with his fans, especially the younger fans, to live-up to his public persona and be the person with the integrity to be a pitchman for various products.

And just as important, what about his responsibilities to the game of golf. He has been the gold standard for the sport. In his star capacity, he has attracted many young players – and viewers – to the game. This cannot be good for golf.

In another Boston Herald piece; this time by Gayle Fee and Laura Raposa, “Face it, Web full of Tiger Woods’ bad lies,” they introduce Mr. Woods:

“Just two months ago, fairway philanderer Tiger Woods told his loyal Facebook friends that he and bride Elin are basically a ‘boring’ couple, a pair of homebodies who like to hang on the couch, watch TV and play video games.

“Ummmm, might be time to update the old profile, Tiger.

“‘I think Elin and I have avoided a lot of media attention because we’re kind of boring,’ wrote the world’s greatest golfer, who is now accused of a string of tawdry liaisons with - among others - a porn star, a cocktail waitress, a Vegas club hostess and waitress in a pancake house.”

Ouch!

It will only get worse. Perhaps the next shoe to drop will be folks selling the tabloids pictures of Mr. Woods in compromising positions in an unflattering context?

Meanwhile, one may only imagine how many more women will come forward alleging to have played with Mr. Woods in the sand trap. (Porn star Joslyn James brings the number of women linked to Tiger Woods to 11 FOXNews; Meet porn star Joslyn James or 'Tiger Woods' alleged mistress No. 'This is so ...)

And one wonders how many of his sponsors will keep him on: Gatorade ends Tiger-themed drinks, says move preplanned USA Today - Michael McCarthy - ‎1 hour ago‎ AP By Michael mccarthy, USA TODAY The first dent in Tiger Woods' gold-plated endorsement portfolio appeared Tuesday as Gatorade said it was dropping its ...; Tiger Woods: Below-par sales doom Gatorade's Tiger Focus Chicago Tribune; Gatorade drops Tiger Woods product FOXNews; Tiger Woods ads disappear from airwaves Boston Herald; and the Wall Street Journal (blog)

As far as his marriage; according to Ms. Goddard:

“The couple are believed to be talking with lawyers over the future of their marriage, after Ms Nordegren discovered that he had been cheating on her and allegedly chased him from the house brandishing a golf club - a confrontation that ended with Woods crashing his Cadillac Escalade into a tree at 2.25am on November 27.”

In the latest installment of this Kabuki theatre morals drama from hell it appears that the sporting magazine “Golf Digest” believes that Mr. Woods ought to embark on yet another tour – a speaking tour about how to multi-task one’s career and marriage; all the while becoming one of golfing’s greats...

Golf Digest has featured Mr. Woods in its upcoming January 2010 edition with a cover headline, “10 Tips Obama can take from Tiger.” Larger: http://twitpic.com/srs5w

At this point, we certainly hope the president is not taking any advice from Mr. Woods because once First Lady Michelle Obama finished with him, having a car crash at 2:25 am would be the least of President Obama’s worries and our great nation would probably be looking forward to how President Joe Biden would solve our nation’s woes.

Ms. Goddard calls to our attention: “The episode has left Woods’s image as a clean-living sports icon in tatters - lending irony to the front cover of Golf Digest magazine’s January issue, which went to press before the sex scandal broke.

“The magazine features a mocked-up picture of Woods acting as caddie to President Obama, to illustrate an article headlined ‘10 Tips Obama can take from Tiger’. The feature, now causing some embarrassment at Golf Digest, suggests that the President, struggling to turn around a recession, could learn the art of ‘the quick recovery’ from the famously adept golfer.”

“‘Woods is a good role model...because he has always been able to pull himself together after setbacks,’ it notes, also observing:

“‘Woods never does anything that would make himself look ridiculous.’”

Local University to ban eating ice cream on campus

A leading “Local University” will be an ice cream-free campus, according to recent widely circulated media reports. (Click here for a larger image: http://twitpic.com/plzlw )

November 14, 2009 by Kant BeTrue New Bedford Herald http://tinyurl.com/yck8ubq

The policy was announced last Wednesday by university officials as they sipped bottled water and munched on simulated fiber-bars, Manhattan style fish assholes and giant curried water bugs. (Click here for a larger image of the “Red Curry Giant Water Bugs: http://twitpic.com/plzzd )

University officials expressed pride at becoming “Maryland's first four-year college to ban an activity once as commonplace as lounging on the quad,” according to one local newspaper.

The sloth-like “lounging in the quad” is also under consideration to be banned. “We want a healthy – and all-conforming campus, that is obedient and health-conscious,” said officials.

“The reason for the policy, which goes into effect in August, is simple, administrators said: They want to reduce health risks from (eating ice cream) and secondhand exposure to (obese students.”)

"I don't try to guide people in how they live their lives, but I am going to protect the campus so it's clean and pleasant for as many people as possible," said the Local University President, Dr. Knowles Jerry-Ben, known affectionately on campus as “Dr. Kno,” who cited a study by The Center for Science in the Public Interest.

Eating ice cream is decadent, indulgent, and delicious, however, the consumer watchdog group is warning many ice cream treats are “coronaries in cones.” Many top brands contain huge amounts of calories and saturated fats said CSPI.

According to one publication, which reported upon the study, “the researchers were astounded at the calories and saturated fat content in a single cone of many products sold by companies like Baskin-Robbins, Ben & Jerry's and Haagen-Dazs.”

Local University has concurrently announced that all products manufactured by Baskin-Robbins, Ben & Jerry's and Haagen-Dazs are not only banned on campus, but also prohibited within a ten-mile radius of the university campus.

Also, all local rallies and celebrations of National Ice Cream Day, usually held every year on July 15, are also now banned. Defiant demonstrators will be dealt with sternly, warned one official as he manically munched on the cardboard wrapper of a simulated fiber-bar.

When asked to comment on a Frederick News-Post article from 2007 that noted “In 1984, President Reagan designated National Ice Cream Day and declared July to be National Ice Cream Month,” one university official belched that President Ronald Reagan and any reference to the former president or his words or “utterances” is now deemed “hate-speech” and also banned on campus.

The news account had cited that “Reagan recognized ice cream as a fun and nutritious food enjoyed by 90 percent of the nation's population, according to the website for the International Dairy Foods Association.

One university official reminded the audience that the International Dairy Foods Association – the IDFA - is now on the Obama administration’s terrorist watch list for propagandizing that “The average amount of ice cream consumed in the United States on any given day in July is 5.3 million gallons.”

The inquiring reporter was immediately – and forcibly - removed from the news conference in handcuffs for asking questions considered seditious in tenor and rebellious in nature.

As the reporter, B. P. Ward of the Potomac Publishing Co., was dragged from the room, he shouted, “George Washington spent $200 on ice cream in the summer of 1790 – that’s a lot of money for back then.”

To which several university officials responded that any reference to President Washington is also seditious… and now banned.

Meanwhile, a published account noted that “Everyone knows that ice cream isn’t a health food, acknowledges the U.S.-based food sleuths famed for blowing the whistle on movie theatre popcorn and MSG in Chinese takeout,” which are also already banned from the campus.

The published account on the perils of ice cream noted, “A CSPI study released Wednesday found a regular scoop of premium ice cream provides 250 to 350 calories and half a day's worth of artery clogging saturated fat.

“‘That's twice what you'd get in a supermarket ice cream like Bryers,’ nutritionist Jayne Hurley told a Washington press conference.

“It can get worse. The food police say a large vanilla shake from Baskin-Robbins has more than 1,000 calories and 32 grams of saturated fat. That's like eating three McDonald's Quarter Pounders.”

All McDonald’s products have been banned from the university campus for some time, noted university officials.

“Hurley even had a warning about empty cones.

“‘This empty chocolate dipped waffle cone from Ben & Jerry's is the equivalent to a half pound rack of baby backribs…”

Waffles, baby backribs and all meat are also banned from the campus, university officials said with noticeable pride, while spitting-out giant water bug shells.
(Click here for a larger image of the Manhattan style fish: http://twitpic.com/pm08r )

Recently ABC News Medical Unit reported that “While the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention consistently report that meat is the number one cause of foodborne illness, they are not the only foods to be wary of.

“A new report from the Center for Science in the Public Interest found that a number of food poisoning cases are caused by some unexpected foods, including leafy greens, potatoes, and ice cream.”

Local University officials said that a ban on leafy greens and potatoes is also under consideration, which cited that, the “CSPI reported that leafy greens, including spinach, lettuce, and cabbage, were responsible for 363 outbreaks between 1990 and 2006 and caused 13,568 cases of illness.”

Eating hamburgers and all meat products, waffles, ice cream, popcorn, and Chinese food is “already banned in campus buildings at (Local University,) but under the new rules, it will be off-limits on the grounds: on sidewalks, in garages and parking lots, and even outside the bar … at the local bistro.”

Local University “joins a rapidly growing list of U.S. colleges - at least 365, according to the (American Say No to Ice Cream Rights Foundation) - that have banned (eating ice cream) on campus.”

According to a local publication: “Last year, Montgomery College became the first Maryland institution of higher education to take the leap. Harford, Frederick, and Carroll community colleges have followed suit. Pennsylvania's university system has banned (eating ice cream) on all of its campuses.”

Dr. Kno “said a survey found that a very small percentage of students and faculty (eat ice cream) and that those who do, (eat ice cream) less frequently than they did in the past. The policy encountered some opposition from student leaders.”

However, all opposition, dialogue, and discussion of university policies have long been banned on campus, following recent successful attempts at banning any opposition to the Ruling Party, on both the state and national level.

Some students “wondered if the university will be able to enforce the rule, noting that a current ban on (eating ice cream) within 30 feet of school buildings is only loosely followed.”

Directing their attention to the 30-foot rule, university officials deny that students have been beaten for violating the rules; however, a small number of students were imprisoned last year for eating ice cream.

University officials, speaking on the condition of animosity, said, that the arrests and incarcerations will continue until the mood and moral of the campus improves and conformity abounds.

“Students and staff members who violate the rules will face fines and sanctions. Visitors who” eat ice cream “may be barred from future access to the 328-acre campus,” and sent to a fat-farm for re-education…

“Some students said the ban on (ice cream) will improve campus.”

“By not having eating ice cream on campus, kids will stop eating ice cream,” said a senior, “can world peace be too far away as a result?”

Squirrelgate in Montreal

Montreal Bluesman fined $50 for feeding squirrel

May 5, 2009

MONTREAL, May 5 (UPI) -- A Montreal musician who, for more than two years, ignored a ticket for feeding a squirrel in a park documented the case with the release of "Squirrelgate."

The saga wound down Monday when a municipal court judge gave blues musician Bruce Kert four months to pay a $50 fine for tossing a peanut to a squirrel in the borough of Westmount on Sept. 14, 2006 …

[…]

Kert said he has since stopped feeding squirrels, but expresses his frustration in the "Squirrelgate" song on the Soundclick.com Web site.

It can be heard at http://www.soundclick.com/bands/default.cfm?bandID=934743

Red Maryland: Way to Avoid Maryland's Proposed EZ Pass Fee

Red Maryland: Way to Avoid Maryland's Proposed EZ Pass Fee

Tuesday, January 6, 2009

My wife called this to my attention the other day and we are less than pleased…

Ya know – this is nuts. Maryland should be encouraging the use of EZ Pass as it saves the state a great deal of money in personnel expenses and other assorted overhead with efficiency fueled by technology.

Way to Avoid Maryland's Proposed EZ Pass Fee

Despite the tough economic times, I knew Governor Martin O'Malley could never resist the urge to raise some form of tax/fee.
