Off Track Art Reception for photographer Bob Boner will take place July 18, 2014

Off Track Art Reception for photographer Bob Boner will take place July 18, 2014

An exhibition featuring photographer Bob Boner will begin July 1, 2014 and run through August 31, 2014 at Off Track Art in Westminster.

A reception will take place on July 18th, 2014, from 5:30-7:30 p.m.

Off Track Art partner Nolly Gelsinger recently wrote, “ff Track Art is pleased to welcome July-August* guest artist, photographer Bob Boner.  Bob’s lens captures nuances of the natural world:  small and large mammals, birds, plants, and landscapes.

“Bob is essentially self-taught, though he admits to pestering more experienced photographers with “countless questions.”  He taught both traditional and digital photography at WMC/McDaniel College in addition to his regular classes for the mathematics department.

“Since his retirement in 2007, Bob has been able to travel to find a wider range of subjects and at home, his growing grandchildren are favorite models.”

In a recent e-mail Mr. Boner wrote, “I became interested in photography in 1968 when I lost my wife's camera in a canoe accident. Fortunately, I didn't lose her.

“I am essentially self-taught in the sense that I have taken no formal photography classes, but pestered more accomplished photographers with countless questions.

“A chemist, an artist, and I taught the first photography class at Western Maryland (now McDaniel) College in 1972. After that, I taught it by myself, whenever I could, in the January Term, regular semesters, and summer school, until the college hired a full-time photography teacher.

“With the advent of digital photography, I began teaching photography again. In 2007 I retired from my full-time position in the mathematics department after 37 years, but continued teaching photography in the January Term.

“My photographic interests are primarily nature/wildlife and grandchildren. My original interest in wildlife was in bird photography. But since retiring, I have been able to get out west in late fall to photograph other species of wildlife.”

Meet artists John and Debby, who have been designing and handcrafting jewelry, art and music since 1980. Jewelry includes signature niobium and carnelian pieces, and we will enjoy their music as well. Work on view and for sale until Dec. 22, 2013. Parking, refreshments.

“John and Debby have been making, designing and handcrafting Jewelry, Art & Music full time since 1980,” according to the website sozra.com.

“They met at Towson State University in the Art department. John's concentration was in photography and Debby's was in Fabric Design and Weaving.

“Shortly after they were married, they decided to combine their talents to create a jewelry business. John's music and art is a never-ending creative endeavor. His 5th CD Multiverse Vortex will be coming out in the fall of 2013. The music is an extension of the Multiverse Vortex 2D Art series.”

“John Sosnowsky is a graduate of Towson State University and a native Marylander current residing in Frederick County. With his wife Debby he has been teaching, demonstrating and creating jewelry, Art and Music full time for over 30 years under the name Sozra Studio.

“He has been the onsite juror of the Pittsburgh Three River Arts Festival, served on the Maryland Renaissance Arts and Craft Board and the Artist Market Chair of the Frederick Festival of the Arts. John is a contemporary Artist. His work is sold through various juried shows, galleries and on the web at www.sozra.com

John Sosnowsky elaborated upon his concept of “Geometric Surrealism,” in his artist statement:

“Beauty and harmony in nature are defined by their simplicity and apparently effortless existence. Art, regardless of tradition, time, historical relevance or medium has attempted to recreate and mimic nature since the first intentional lines were drawn in the soil beneath primitive feet.

“As my experiences through travel, study, and technology would have it, the medium and creative direction my art has taken spans continents, religions, time and a multitude of resources. In an attempt to recreate the beauty and harmony I have emanating in my being, my experiences and imagination have converged with simple geometry, high technology and ancient symbolism to bring an element of timelessness and universality to the piece before you.

“These pieces are meant to evoke comfort and curiosity, calm through chaos, and the untraditional through convention. Enjoy the juxtaposition of each piece as simplicity draws you into complexity.

“All human construct evolves from basic laws of existence. In the case of visual arts, we remember basic geometry. Nothing starts without a point. Two points may connect a rigid line. Yet a series of points can give semblance to a wave or abstraction of sorts. Regardless of time, space, culture or belief these are the rules we abide by in our visual creations of ‘art.’ With this collection I hope to bring you on a positive, visual journey that spans all that is known while remaining simple.

“With a Bachelor’s Degree in Art from Towson University, I have been working for over 30 years, with my wife Debby, creating and selling art at juried shows and galleries.”

Artist Biography

After working in the corporate world for many years Donna took an early retirement.  In January 2007, she took her first art class at Carroll Community College.  She continued with private watercolor classes with Felisa Flecker, workshops and classes with Tara Grim, Carolyn Seabolt, Sarah Abel DeLuca, and Skip Lawrence.  Presently Donna enjoys abstract painting, using acrylics, collage and mixed media with Ed Ramsburg, who continually encourages her to grow as an artist.

She has exhibited at Carroll County Community College – The Great Hall, Carroll Life Gallery, Circuit Court Building, Carroll County Arts Council, Frederick Arts Council (FAC), Delaplaine Visual Arts Education Center (DVAEC), The Artists Gallery, FMH Crestwood Gallery, and Frederick County Art Association.  Within this past year, two of the art pieces have been shown at the Annapolis Statehouse Building.  Presently, original pieces and giclees are in private collections and consigned in a local shop.

When Donna was in the second grade art class, she remembered feeling the excitement when painting her first abstract.  Now she is focusing on acrylic, collage and mixed media abstracts - the larger the canvas, the better.  She enjoys expressing creativity through painting and going to new levels using the imagination with whatever materials are available.  The whole process from beginning to end is exhilarating! I love sharing my world of color with others.

Pen and ink artist Stan Gilmore to exhibit at Off Track Art

Please join us at Off Track Art on November 2, 2012 at 5:30 in the evening for a reception for our next guest artist, Stanley F. Gilmore, Jr.

Mr. Gilmore specializes in pen and ink drawings of various buildings and structures found in and around Carroll County. He enjoys this medium as it suits the character and structure of many historic buildings.

The drawings are all limited and numbered edition prints with each subject not just rendered in ink, but many are hand colored with watercolors as well. A few different subjects other than Carroll County scenes will be on exhibit and for sale as well.

In addition, Mr. Gilmore has also illustrated two children’s books for Old Line Publishing, found at Old Line Publishing.com, Amazon.com, and Barnes & Noble.com.

One book is “The Little Match Girl,” by Hans Christian Anderson, and the other is “The Birth of Christ,” as found in the gospel of Luke. These two books will be available for purchase and signing at the opening of his art show on November 2, 2012.

Mr. Gilmore is now a retired art teacher who taught elementary, middle school, and high school art for 38 years in various schools in the county.

He is presently teaching art at the Carroll Lutheran School K - 8, one day a week, and varied drawing classes in the evenings at the Carroll Community College in their Continuing Education Program.

He is a graduate of The Maryland Institute College of Art with a BFA in Art Education, 1970, and Towson University with a MS degree in Instructional Technology, 2000.

“Off Track Art” is an artists’ collective and gallery located in the historic Liberty Building at 11 Liberty Street – next to the railroad tracks, off of the Sentinel parking lot at the corner of West Main St and MD 27-Liberty St - in downtown Westminster, Maryland.

For almost 4-years, the ten partners in the coop have been dedicated to advancing the arts in Westminster as well as the careers, ideas, and artistic visions of its members.

The coop partners include, Kevin Dayhoff, Gail Elwell, Linda Van Hart, Judy Goodyear, Charlotte Laslo, Amanda Beck Mauck, Joyce Schaum, Carolyn Seabolt, Robert Waddell, and Gordon Wickes.

After discussions and organizational meetings in December 2008, Off Track opened its doors in January 2009 and had its grand opening on Feb. 13th, 2009.

Opening Reception at Off Track Art
Friday, July 27, 2012
5:30 - 7:30 PM
Paula Waterman

Meet the Artist, and view her exceptional wildlife portraits!

Paula Waterman can’t remember a time she wasn’t making art. For the past decade she has been doing just that as a full time artist working in scratchboard, oil painting, and most recently in bronze sculpture. Her subject matter is mostly the animals she sees in the wild and in the company of people. She has a particular interest in birds, and of dog subjects, though landscape and marine subjects are also important to her.

A common thread in all her work in all media probably is the critical importance of light source and light color; in fact she feels that light is the true subject in all her work.
