A visit to the Morse Tiffany museum in Winter Park Florida

A visit to the Morse Tiffany museum in Winter Park Florida http://kevindayhoffart.blogspot.com/2015/03/a-visit-to-morse-tiffany-museum-in.html

February 27, 2015

Caroline and I visited the Morse Museum http://www.morsemuseum.org/ on Friday, February 27, 2015. It is not very far from Orlando Florida. It is well worth taking a day off from Disney or Universal Studios to spend a day in the Morse Museum. It is simply an incredible exhibit… Reported to be the “world’s most comprehensive collection of the works of Lois Comfort Tiffany.”

And if the art does not take your breath away, the comprehensive history presentation putting the art in an American history context is quite well done and worth the visit alone…

Besides this time of the year, it is warm – no snow. Winter Park Florida will remind you of St. Armand’s Circle in Sarasota Florida. Very nice area of Florida.

Sky News: Taylor Swift Trademarks 'This Sick Beat' Lyric

Taylor Swift Trademarks 'This Sick Beat' Lyric: "She has sold millions of albums and her latest songs are being sung by fans around the world, but now Taylor Swift has taken action to ban the unauthorised use of her lyrics.

The Shake It Off singer has trademarked phrases such as "This sick beat" and "Cause we never go out of style" to make sure they do not appear on merchandise.

It has been a busy week for the star after her Twitter and Instagram accounts were hacked on Tuesday.

According to the legal database Justia, the filing prevents the use of phrases from her album 1989 on everything from umbrellas to removable tattoos.

Other lyrics listed include "Party like it's 1989" and "Nice to meet you. Where you been?""

Whether you are a writer, visual artist or a well-known performer; the challenge of defending our intellectual property is constant - read more here: http://news.sky.com/story/1417203/taylor-swift-trademarks-this-sick-beat-lyric

On Friday, February 9, 2007, Dick Hull retired from Carroll Land Services. The creative genius that made Carroll Land Services so successful can still be seen through the lens of his camera.

According to Carroll County Times writer Jacob deNobel, the exhibition started on Thursday, January 22, 2015 and is “running until Feb. 28. The exhibition features photography from the group's 38 members and families, with subjects including nature photography, still-lifes, abstract images and landscapes

[…]

Mr. deNobel quotes Mr. Hull to remark, “Richard Hull, a nature photographer from Manchester who will be exhibiting in the show, said he began taking pictures in the mid-'80s when he became involved with underwater photography. When he bought his first digital camera in 2005, he had trouble with the new technology, though soon embraced the tech wholeheartedly.

“‘I’m not a computer guy, so to learn computers and the programs was pretty tough," Hull said. "In my opinion, it really is superior a lot of the time, even though there are people who would hate to hear me say it.’”

Courtney Love Prepares for ‘Kansas City Choir Boy’ - NYTimes.com:
Ditch the Persona, Then Move a Piano

Singer, songwriter, punk-rocker, actress, fashionista, tabloid bonanza and ... piano mover? That’s part of Courtney Love’s latest and thoroughly unexpected gig. The performer who made her name in the 1990s with her primal rasp and confrontational, straight-from-the-id songs will play the lead in “Kansas City Choir Boy,” a music-theater piece she’s performing with its songwriter, Todd Almond, in the 84-seat South Village performance space Here from Jan. 8-17...

At TAG/The Artists Gallery in October: Charles Bowers, "Faces of Cuba" and Joan Tarbell Plato, "Bird Habitats"

At TAG/The Artists Gallery in October: Charles Bowers, "Faces of Cuba" and Joan Tarbell Plato, "Bird Habitats"
Upcoming Exhibit at The Artists Gallery

FACES OF CUBA
Charles Bowers

BIRD HABITATS
Joan Tarbell Plato

 OPENING RECEPTION
November 1, 5 - 9 pm

CHARLES BOWERS will have a show at TAG/The Artists Gallery entitled “Faces of Cuba: An Photographic Exhibition.”  To celebrate the exhibition’s opening on Sat., Nov. 1, there will be music by solo guitarist and instrumentalist Kevin Burnes and refreshments by Sabor de Cuba. The gallery will open additional hours in November on Saturday evenings from 6-9 pm.

Curiosity is what drew Bowers to Cuba. “I wanted to know what life is like for the Cuban people, after over a half century of Communism,” he says.

“The faces of the Cuban people told their story. The streets were alive with people scurrying to and from work, talking to friends on street corners and park benches. Life appeared normal. I saw, in their faces, warm smiles and their true joy of existence.”

JOAN TARBELL PLATO Also in November, painter Joan Tarbell Plato will show “Bird Habitats: Imagination Taking Flight.”  These works were inspired by birds and the natural world.  Plato paints intricate landscapes where birds wade and fly through green thickets, appearing camouflaged. One painting depicts a blackbird at rest but carefully alert, while others show a heron walking through a thicket and a small bird in a late afternoon wind.

Plato’s work lets the viewer experience nature’s space. The birds themselves often occupy only a small part of the work.

“The beauty of the natural world inspires me, Plato explains. “I respond to its ebb and flow.  In this series I began by applying loose ink to Yupo paper, painting and imprinting as I danced above it.  I studied the negative areas and values and let the patterns and shapes speak to me as I add layers of acrylic paint and sometimes birds, trees or flowers.”

Lost Andy Warhol art recovered from 1980's Amiga floppy disks | PCWorld

Brad Chacos @BradChacos Apr 24, 2014"

Data recovery isn't a lost art, but it can find lost art. Case in point: The Andy Warhol Museum announced on Thursday that it has recovered a series of forgotten doodles, pictures, camera shots, notes, and more that belonged the iconic artist—works that have been trapped an Amiga 1000 computer's floppy disks since 1985. And it's all thanks to a YouTube video.
Commodore paid Warhol to help promote the Amiga 1000's graphical prowess. The Andy Warhol Museum had until this point managed to preserve the disks, but not the individual files themselves, as they were stored in "an obsolete format" that today's Amiga's emulators couldn't parse... http://www.pcworld.com/article/2146903/lost-andy-warhol-art-recovered-from-1980s-amiga-floppy-disks.html#tk.nl_today

March 1 through April 19, 2014

Paintings and Drawings
Reflecting on the Galapagos Islands

RECEPTION
First Saturday, April 5, 3-5 pm
A trip to the Galapagos Islands in 2013 yielded the inspiration for this series of paintings and drawings. Being a lover of animals and the environment, the blue-footed boobies, marine and land Iguanas, giant tortoises, sea lions and underwater life and the water itself provided me with extensive visual subject matter. A trip to the Galapagos Islands in 2013 yielded the inspiration for this series of paintings and drawings.
