The Bitter Tears of Petra von Kant (1972) Rainer Werner Fassbinder: The Bitter Tears of Petra von Kant (German: Die bitteren Tränen der Petra von Kant) is a 1972 West German film directed by Rainer Werner Fassbinder, based on his own play. The film has an all-female cast, and it is set in the home of the narcissistic protagonist Petra von Kant. It follows the changing dynamics in her relationships with the other women. Petra's story is told in a theater-like fashion in four different acts, each depicting the states of mind of the main character hinted visually by her clothes and hair. Slave Narratives: A first-person narrative pertaining to the history of slavery in the United States (often referred to as the WPA Slave Narrative Collection) is a massive compilation of histories by former slaves undertaken by the Federal Writers' Project of the Works Progress Administration. The body of work had its beginning in the second year of the Federal Writers' Project … in 1936…” Between 1936- 1938, the project, in part, “recorded interviews with ex-slaves...” The body of work created by the project now resides in the Library of Congress in Washington DC.
