Body Facts!
More than half the bones in your body are located in your hands and feet.
There is enough iron in the human body to make one small nail.
Women blink almost twice as much as men.
A sneeze can exceed the speed of 100 mph.
An average human drinks about 16,000 gallons of water in a lifetime.
Beards are the fastest growing hair. If the average man never trimmed his beard, it could grow to 30 feet over the course of his lifetime.
Every person has a unique tongue print.
Fingernails grow faster than toenails and your middle fingernail is the quickest one to grow. It takes about 150 days to grow out a full length fingernail.
Your brain continues to send out electrical wave signals approximately 37 hours after death.
The nervous system transmits messages to the brain at speeds of 180 miles per hour.
The human nose can remember 50,000 different smells.
The human eye can detect more than 10,000,000 different colors!
Your jawbone is the hardest bone in your body.
When you were born, you had 350 bones in your body, and after childhood 144 of these bones fused together.
Your brain stops growing when you are about 15 years old.
Laughing and coughing put more pressure on the spine than walking or standing.
Your stomach produces a new lining every 3 days in order to avoid digesting itself in its own production of acid.
About every seven years, your body replaces the equivalent of an entirely new skeleton.
The spinal cord is less then two feet in length and is the same diameter as your index finger, yet it contains over 10 billion nerve cells.
Blood type A can receive blood types A & O safely. Blood type B can receive types B & O. Blood type O can receive only O blood but are “universal donors” because O is acceptable to all other blood types. Blood type O is the most common blood type worldwide.
The eye muscle is the fastest reacting muscle of the whole body. It contracts in less than 1/100th of a second.
It takes approximately 200,000 frowns to create one permanent brow line.
Your eyesight is the sharpest in the middle of the day.http://kevindayhoff.tumblr.com/post/339477353/body-facts

Pickle Peril
Few people realize the peril of the deadly pickle. Consider:
99.9% of all folks who die of a heart attack have eaten pickles;
-
99.7% of all those involved in air, auto, boat and bike accidents ate pickles in the preceding 21 days;
-
nearly all sick people have eaten pickles;
-
among all people born in 1870, who later ate pickles, there has been nearly 100% mortality.
-
We simply must do something about this deadly scourge. Write your congress member today. Please tell him or her that enough is enough! Outlaw pickles today! Or at least place a seven-day waiting period on the purchase and possession of a pickle for domestic consumption. It is the least that we can do! Pickle peril must stop now! It must stop with us! It is our civic, human, ethical and moral responsibility.

Perhaps it is time to rethink the War on Drugs
March 28, 2009
I have slowly but surely evolved in my thinking to the point that I agree that it is time to re-assess our country’s “War on Drugs.”
Above and beyond the fact that is not appropriate to wage war on your own citizens; it is becoming obvious that this is not a problem that can be solved with law enforcement alone.
It has been an extraordinarily expensive war – and it is not working.
At this point, I’m not sure that I go along with legalizing it; perhaps it is time to emphasis treating it as a medical problem.

Mission of Mercy raises awareness of health needs
Published in http://explorecarroll.com/news/2461/news-briefs/ on 03/04/2009
Mission of Mercy, a nonprofit that provides free health care to Carroll County residents who could not otherwise afford it, is holding a series of open houses to give the public an inside look at its operations and — hopefully in the minds of administrators — inspire more individuals to donate or volunteer.
The free, one-hour tours, dubbed Coffee with MOM, include a continental breakfast. They will be held at the Barrell House, 10 Distillery Drive, Westminster, where Mission of Mercy's mobile clinic treats medical and dental patients on its periodic stops in Westminster.
The dates are March 4 and 18, April 15 and 29 and May 6 and 27.
Mission of Mercy's client load has spiked as the economy has worsened.
The organization needs doctors and dentists who can volunteer a day or two a month, and also nurses to staff clinics. The operation also needs monetary donations.
MOM officials said clients include not just the unemployed, but also those who are employed but are still either uninsured or under-insured, insofar as they cannot afford their co-payments or need treatment not covered by insurance.
Those interested in attending a Coffee with MOM open house should call 410-857-4811.
