Intel turns its attention to desktop performance, unveils 8-core Haswell-E processor | PCWorld:

http://www.pcworld.com/article/2600325/intel-turns-its-attention-to-desktop-performance-unveils-8-core-haswell-e-processor.html#tk.nl_pcwbest

Intel took the wraps off its most powerful consumer CPU at the PAX video-game conference in Seattle, WA, today. Intel’s Core i7 High-end Desktop Processor Family, code-named Haswell-E, consists of three unlocked processors that support hyperthreading, DDR4 memory, and Intel’s all-new X99 chipset.

The top-of-the-line Core i7-5960X boasts eight cores (16 processor threads), 20MB of cache, and 40 PCIe 3.0 lanes. This $999 processor runs at a base clock frequency of 3.0GHz and torques up to 3.5GHz in turbo mode.

The Core i7-5930K provides six physical cores (12 processor threads), 15MB of cache, and 40 PCIe 3.0 lanes. Its base clock frequency is 3.5GHz (up to 3.7GHz in turbo mode) and costs $583. The Core i7-5820K is also a six-core (12 processor threads) CPU with 15MB of cache, but it supports only 28 PCIe 3.0 lanes. It runs at a base clock of 3.3GHz and a turbo frequency of 3.6GHz. Intel is pricing this chip at $389.

Since all three processors are unlocked, system builders and end users can tweak the PC's BIOS to run the CPUs at even higher clock speeds.

Mediabistro Morning Media Newsfeed - 9/3/2014 American Journalist Steven Sotloff Reportedly Beheaded by ISIS

American Journalist Steven Sotloff Reportedly Beheaded by ISIS (TVNewser)
Two weeks after James Foley was beheaded by ISIS, American journalist Steven Sotloff has reportedly been executed by the same group.

FishbowlDC "This is something that the administration has obviously been watching very carefully since this threat against Mr. Sotloff's life was originally made a few weeks ago," said White House press secretary Josh Earnest Tuesday afternoon. Earnest went on to say, "I'm not in a position to confirm the authenticity of that video or the reports at this point since I obviously just walked out here. If there is a video that has been released, it is something that will be analyzed very carefully by the U.S. government and our intelligence officials to determine its authenticity."

ABC News In a new video, which appeared online Tuesday, Sotloff addresses the camera, saying, "I'm sure you know exactly who I am by now and why I am appearing." Later the video then cuts to the militant who says, "I'm back, Obama. I'm back because of your arrogant foreign policy towards the Islamic State [ISIS]."

Politico Sotloff, 31, grew up in Florida and was a freelance journalist, having worked for publications like Time magazine and Foreign Policy. He was taken hostage while reporting in Syria last year. WSJ The Islamic State video also showed a man identified as Briton David Cawthorne Haines. He is kneeling and wearing an orange jumpsuit as the militant threatens to kill him next. A U.S. official said there is no reason to believe the video isn't authentic.

USA Today The U.S. intelligence community has concluded that a video appearing to show the beheading of Sotloff is genuine.

Fire Truck Pizza Company - Food Truck, Pizza, Corporate Catering

Fire Truck Pizza Company - Food Truck, Pizza, Corporate Catering:

"Meet The Fire Truck Pizza Company

The Fire Truck Pizza Company in no ordinary food truck in Cleveland, Ohio.

It is the first mobile wood burning pizza oven to serve pizza from a Fire Truck!  Our style combines old world technique with modern tastes that gives you a pizza pie unlike any other!

Our Truck is as much of a show as the pizza!  It is a retired 1987 Ford C 8000 Pumper Fire Truck, that we have named Fausto.

We have converted it to a food truck or as we like to call it, our Mobile Pizza Extravaganza.  We installed a wood burning oven that cooks at temperatures over 750 degrees.

Throughout the modification process we kept the deck water gun operational and have also installed a satellite TV and other great features.  Whether you are having a fire truck birthday party or corporate catering, call us for your next event!"

Publisher of The Washington Post Will Resign - NYTimes.com

Publisher of The Washington Post Will Resign - NYTimes.com: "By RAVI SOMAIYASEPT. 2, 2014"

The Washington Post announced on Tuesday that its publisher, Katharine Weymouth, was stepping down, signaling the end of the Graham family’s connection to the newspaper it owned for 80 years before selling it last year to Jeffrey P. Bezos, the founder of Amazon.

Ms. Weymouth will be succeeded by Frederick J. Ryan Jr., the founding chief executive of Politico and a former Reagan administration official. He starts Oct. 1.

Ms. Weymouth, a granddaughter of Katharine Graham, the longtime Washington Post publisher, was the last major link to the family that had taken on a sitting president during the Watergate scandal and transformed the paper into an American institution. Her uncle, Donald E. Graham, was the chairman of The Post before selling to Mr. Bezos, and it was expected that Mr. Bezos would bring in his own publisher to oversee the paper’s business operations.

Wormseed was once a growing industry in the county [Eagle Archives]

Wormseed was once a growing industry in the county [Eagle Archives]

"The economy, jobs creation, and unemployment continue to be in the national and state news these days.

Locally, the business and economic climate has changed in the last few years. To be certain, change has been a constant dynamic in the local economy since the beginnings of our county in the 1700s.

The one thing that has remained the same in spite of all the changes, is that agriculture continues to be a major industry in Carroll.

But one agricultural product many younger readers may not be familiar with that has not withstood the test of time is an ancient medicine known for its distinctive, unpleasant smell — wormseed."

Cycling's connection to Carroll County includes clubs and races in 1800s [Eagle Archives]

According to the website for the Le Tour de France (Letour.com), the final, 21st stage of this year's 101st edition of the famed European bicycle race will take place on July 27. For the riders, it will mark the end of a journey of 3,664 kilometers, from England to Paris by way of much of France that began on July 5.

Did you know that a number of celebrated bicycle races took place in Carroll County, years before the Tour de France began in 1903?

In Carroll County in the late 1890s, bicycle races, tours and clubs were quite the rage.

Cathy Baty, curator for the Historical Society of Carroll County, reported in a July 28, 2013 program, "Old Roots, New Roots," on WTTR, that "The first machine that we would recognize as a bicycle was developed in 1865.
