Falafel Shack, 9 North Main Street, Chambersburg, PA

Falafel Shack, 9 North Main Street, Chambersburg, PA 17201 717-404-8282 www.falafelshackpa.com

Our family – the Cimbala, Dorrance, Dayhoff, and Babylon family went to eat here on Friday, 11Jan2019 and we really enjoyed the food, the service, and family friendly Mediterranean atmosphere. Our food was wonderful. Our server was competent, capable, friendly, and delightful. The owner, Amir, took the time to come over and say hi, and chat with us a bit. We really recommend the Falafel Shack to other families. Enjoy. @FalafelShack https://www.facebook.com/FalafelShack/

For dinner this evening, Caroline, Grammy and returned to Buttersburg

For dinner this evening, Caroline, Grammy and returned to Buttersburg. It was too fun.

It is great to be alive in the year 2017. Jim Rowe had posted on my Facebook page that he had baked a cherry custard pie. I had planned to stay in the office and work through dinner with a sandwich. However, with the information that a cherry custard pie was available, Caroline weighed-in, the presses stopped and all plans were changed.

Jim Rowe greeted us at the door, and seated us in the back. We had a great dinner. Caroline ordered salmon cakes, Grammy got the soft shell crab again and I went for the meatloaf. Meatloaf is a specialty dish for both Caroline and me, so we know meatloaf – and it was the best.

Our server was Tessa Howard – the best.

For dessert, Caroline and Grammy had the cherry custard pie and I had the carrot cake. It was to die for.

Frank Tunzi came out from the kitchen to say hi, and to remind us that he made the flowers for our wedding. He even remembered all the details. (I know flowers – it was my business for 25-years.)

And for a bonus, we got to see Stephen Howard, who was helping-out in the kitchen of whom, I was just reminded, is Larry L Brumfield's son. It is a small world. It's great to live in Carroll County. Love, love, love Buttersburg Inn. July 1, 2017 Sat.

For lunch Sat, June 10, 2017, Grammy, Caroline and I ate at local Korean Philly Cheese Steak Sandwich

For lunch Sat, June 10, 2017, Grammy, Caroline and I ate at local Korean Philly Cheese Steak Sandwich in Newport News, Virginia.

We got off 64 at Rte 17 north, exit 259a. At the intersection of Rte 17 and Old Oyster Point Road, we found "Straight Outta Philly," at 12:15. Lunch took an hour. We left at 1:15 and resumed driving up Rte 17.

I got a Philly Cheese Steak Pizza. I am not kidding. Grammy actually got a Philly Cheese Steak. Caroline got the Korean Beef Bolgogi, with three Mondoos and no Kimchi. All of our food was quite good.

The restaurant was clean, well-lit and nicely decorated in a vinyl record musical theme. I especially appreciated several home-made signs that the server explained, were made by a local regular customer.

One sign explained that 'Tipping' was not a faraway Chinese city… We sat under a very large neon sign with the restaurant's name.

We always take a great deal of pride in finding locally-owned restaurants for eating when we are on the road. We like supporting local small businesses. More often than not, they have a story to tell, the food is great and the restaurant employees and servers are fun.

Straight Outta Philly was great. Our server was a local girl, who wants to go to school to be an ultrasound technician. While we were there a number of local folks came to eat, including two post office employees.

Fire Truck Pizza Company - Food Truck, Pizza, Corporate Catering

Fire Truck Pizza Company - Food Truck, Pizza, Corporate Catering:

"Meet The Fire Truck Pizza Company

The Fire Truck Pizza Company in no ordinary food truck in Cleveland, Ohio.

It is the first mobile wood burning pizza oven to serve pizza from a Fire Truck!  Our style combines old world technique with modern tastes that gives you a pizza pie unlike any other!

Our Truck is as much of a show as the pizza!  It is a retired 1987 Ford C 8000 Pumper Fire Truck, that we have named Fausto.

We have converted it to a food truck or as we like to call it, our Mobile Pizza Extravaganza.  We installed a wood burning oven that cooks at temperatures over 750 degrees.

Throughout the modification process we kept the deck water gun operational and have also installed a satellite TV and other great features.  Whether you are having a fire truck birthday party or corporate catering, call us for your next event!"

K-Paul’s Louisiana Kitchen

K-Paul’s Louisiana Kitchen
416 Chartres Street (in between Conti and St. Louis Streets)
New Orleans, LA 70130
Friday, March 28, 2014 in between visits to the New Orleans Historic Collections museum campus…

According to the K-Paul’s Louisiana Kitchen website:

In 1979, when Chef Paul Prudhomme and his late wife, K, opened their "modest", 62-seat K-Paul's Louisiana Kitchen on Chartres Street in the historic French Quarter of New Orleans, they had no idea the restaurant was soon to become a sensation, with nightly lines of eager diners waiting sometimes hours to be seated. That was back in the days when K-Paul's didn't accept reservations or credit cards! But now, under the hands-on direction of Chef Paul Prudhomme, the restaurant has gone through major changes to keep up with the growing demands of its clients and the times.

Based on the designs of the original 1834 structure, K-Paul's was extensively refurbished and expanded in 1996 and now offers seating for more than 200 dining guests. Dining areas include seasonal balcony dining, spacious dining rooms on both the first and second floors and an intimate climate-controlled courtyard for dining al fresco. K's Parlor, an enclosed private room on the second floor, is host to parties, corporate events, and other special occasions. Both floors feature an open kitchen where diners can see exactly how each delectable dish is prepared. K-Paul's gladly accepts reservations and offers catering on-site or anywhere around the world.

Executive Chef Paul Miller goes to great lengths to ensure the highest quality food. He states, "We have three kitchens and a bakery at K-Paul's and the philosophy and commitment to excellence will never change. There are still no freezers in the restaurant and only the freshest ingredients of the highest quality are used. This is why we change our menu daily."

Chef Paul Prudhomme and the entire staff of K-Paul's Louisiana Kitchen cordially welcome you to our restaurant to experience all that we offer.

Addressing Lincoln and more at Taneytown breakfast by Kevin Dayhoff

Addressing Lincoln and more at Taneytown breakfast [Eagle Archives]

At the most recent Taneytown Business Breakfast, State Senator and historian Joe Getty, R-Baltimore and Carroll County, delighted an audience of almost 100 with insights on the local perspective of President Abraham Lincoln, Taneytown and the Battle of Gettysburg…. The English author, essayist and biographer, Samuel Johnson once said: “There are two types of knowledge.  One is knowing a thing. The other is knowing where to find it.”

Well, where to find it is at the Taneytown business breakfast. If you have ever attended, you know you may arrive to find a few strangers in the room, but you never leave without making new friends, connections and learning some new way to charge ahead into the day and make a difference in our community.

Audrey Cimino of the Community Foundation of Carroll County could not agree more. “Oh my, - without a doubt, this is the best business breakfast in the area,” said Cimino as she juggled her breakfast in one hand, handed-out literature in the other hand and fielded questions from folks right and left including Kevin McLeod, the Program Director at Silver Oak Academy, and Steve Wantz, the past president of the Carroll County Volunteer Emergency Services Association.

Also see: Battle of the Alamo coincided with Carroll's independence efforts

By Kevin Dayhoff, September 26, 2013

In October 1833 a referendum was held, in what we now know as the area encompassing Baltimore, Carroll and Frederick counties, on whether a new county was to be created. The vote failed, 593 to 554, although it was later speculated that it failed because of voter irregularities in Baltimore County.

Manchester, which had been against the idea of forming a separate (Carroll) county, “exultantly fired [a cannon] in the direction of defeated Westminster” after the vote was taken.

Subsequently a bill was introduced in 1835 and passed the General Assembly on March 25, 1836 to form Carroll County.  This act was confirmed on January 19, 1837. It took only a war of words that lasted about 50 years, but Carroll Countians had finally become an independent county.

This portion of Carroll County history came to mind earlier in the month as I pondered the events of Feb. 23 through March 6, 1836 while I studied a small clay, mud and straw building in a far-off land, now known as Texas.

Many will recognize the dates as when the Battle of the Alamo took place in San Antonio Texas. I took a few days in early September to tour the Alamo and San Antonio and study how its history compared with events in Carroll County in the same time frame.

With the exception of Manchester getting a bit feisty in 1833 and about three military campaigns during the American Civil War, Carroll County history is remarkably free of bloodshed and violence.

Although a small group of missionaries visited the San Antonio area as early as the 1675-1691 time period, it was not until 1718 that a mission outpost was built on the site of the Alamo. A more permanent building was started in 1744… http://www.baltimoresun.com/news/maryland/carroll/westminster/ph-eagle-archives-20130926,0,6733017.story

And see: Carroll Lutherans started meeting in 1747

By Kevin Dayhoff, September 3, 2013

The Lutheran church in Maryland can possibly trace its roots as far back as 1747 when small numbers of Lutherans and German Reformers began meeting in private homes primarily in northern Carroll and Frederick Counties.

“The first church building in Carroll County was erected by the Lutheran and Reformed congregations of Manchester in 1760…,” according to a history, “Carroll County Maryland," written by Nancy Warner.

In Westminster, Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church is celebrating its 146th anniversary this month. The historic church located at 21 Carroll St. in Westminster was chartered September 20-23, 1867, according to various accounts including a history of Grace Lutheran published in 1967… http://www.baltimoresun.com/news/maryland/carroll/westminster/ph-eagle-archives-20130903,0,6274260.story
