Dayhoff Time Flies: Ocean City - Down the ocean, hon.

Dayhoff Time Flies: Ocean City - Down the ocean, hon.

Sunday, June 30, 2019 by Kevin E. Dayhoff

This year I enjoyed the summer solstice, Friday, June 21, by doing a 2.25-mile run on the boardwalk in Ocean City. According to the Washington Post, “The summer solstice is … our longest day and shortest night of the year, and the first day of
astronomical summer in Earth’s Northern Hemisphere… In Washington, the sun
(was) up for 14 hours and 54 minutes on June 21, rising in the northeastern sky
(at) 5:43 a.m. and setting in the northwest at 8:37 p.m. (For perspective,
that’s about 5½ hours more daylight than seen on the winter solstice in
December.)”

I could not think of a better way to spend the longest day
of the year than to spend it in Ocean City “down the ocean, hon.”

Some of my fondest childhood memories include leisurely
vacations on the Chesapeake Bay, explorations throughout the Eastern Shore and
walking on the boardwalk in Ocean City. For some reason French fries, pizza and
ice cream, always taste better when it is mixed with an ocean salt breeze,
walking the boardwalk, while fighting off the seagulls.

Dayhoff Time Flies - Maryland State Police Major (Retired) Krome, 79, of Carroll County

Sunday, June 23, 2019 by Kevin E. Dayhoff

On Monday, June 10, 2019, Maryland State Police Major (Retired) Morris (Moe) L. Krome, 79, of Carroll County, passed away at Carroll Hospice Dove House. Krome was the husband of Carolyn Dudley Krome for 55-years. Together they owned a farm in rural Carroll County where they trained show horses.

Krome was the unofficial Dean Emeritus of Maryland Troopers and considered by many to be an icon of the discipline, professionalism, excellence and intelligence that we have come to know as the Maryland State Police (MSP) since its earliest beginnings in 1921.

For decades Krome held court at a small table at the VFW with his lifelong friend, Special Drug Enforcement Administration, (DEA) Agent (Retired) Tim Clark, the first Monday of every month at the monthly meeting of the Maryland Troopers Association (MTA) Lodge 20.

Imagine Dragons - Whatever It Takes

#amwriting

“Whatever it takes” Imagine Dragons

October 6, 2017

Falling too fast to prepare for this
Tripping in the world could be dangerous
Everybody circling, it's vulturous
Negative, nepotist

Everybody waiting for the fall of man
Everybody praying for the end of times
Everybody hoping they could be the one
I was born to run, I was born for this

Whip, whip
Run me like a racehorse
Pull me like a ripcord
Break me down and build me up
I wanna be the slip, slip
Word upon your lip, lip
Letter that you rip, rip
Break me down and build me up

Whatever it takes
'Cause I love the adrenaline in my veins
I do whatever it takes
'Cause I love how it feels when I break the chains
Whatever it takes
You take me to the top I'm ready for
Whatever it takes
'Cause I love the adrenaline in my veins
I do what it takes

Always had a fear of being typical
Looking at my body feeling miserable
Always hanging on to the visual
I wanna be invisible

Looking at my years like a martyrdom
Everybody needs to be a part of 'em
Never be enough, I'm the prodigal son
I was born to run, I was born for this

Whip, whip
Run me like a racehorse
Pull me like a ripcord
Break me down and build me up
I wanna be the slip, slip
Word upon your lip, lip
Letter that you rip, rip
Break me down and build me up

Whatever it takes
'Cause I love the adrenaline in my veins
I do whatever it takes
'Cause I love how it feels when I break the chains
Whatever it takes
You take me to the top, I'm ready for
Whatever it takes
'Cause I love the adrenaline in my veins
I do what it takes

Hypocritical, egotistical
Don't wanna be the parenthetical, hypothetical
Working onto something that I'm proud of, out of the box
An epoxy to the world and the vision we've lost
I'm an apostrophe
I'm just a symbol to remind you that there's more to see
I'm just a product of the system, a catastrophe
And yet a masterpiece, and yet I'm half-diseased
And when I am deceased
At least I go down to the grave and die happily
Leave the body and my soul to be a part of thee
I do what it takes

Whatever it takes
'Cause I love the adrenaline in my veins
I do whatever it takes
'Cause I love how it feels when I break the chains
Whatever it takes
You take me to the top, I'm ready for
Whatever it takes
'Cause I love the adrenaline in my veins
I do what it takes

Councilmember Kevin Dayhoff Arts Council report for the June 10, 2019 Westminster mayor and Council meeting:

Councilmember Kevin Dayhoff Arts Council report for the June 10, 2019 Westminster
mayor and Council meeting:

There are quite a number of other events coming to the Arts Council.

For the sake of time, I will just mention two events here. For more information
go to: www.CarrollCountyArtsCouncil.org

I was not able to attend the
annual Art in the Park festival held on the grounds of Westminster City Hall. In
1993 I exhibited at the first Art in the Park and have exhibited a number of
times in the past, but this year I volunteered to help with the horses at the
annual Equestrian Special Olympics.

By all reports, this year’s
Art in the park went well – and was well-attended. This year, according to a
May 29, 2019 article by Cat Righter in the Carroll County Times - Susan
Williamson, the visual arts coordinator with the Carroll County Arts Council,
said that about 58 artists participated. Read the full story here: https://www.carrollcountytimes.com/entertainment/cc-en-art-park-20190528-story.html

“The Art of the
Musical Instrument” June 20 through August 9, 2019

Some of the highlights
include: “The Art of the Musical Instrument” Exhibit at the Carroll Arts Center

The Carroll Arts Center is
proud to be hosting a new exhibit in the Tevis Gallery from June 20 through
August 9, 2019. The “The Art of the Musical Instrument” weaves together sound,
narrative, history, and actual musical instruments. Guest curator Ryan A.
Koons, PhD, focuses on musical instruments as crafted art objects with diverse
histories as well as objects that create beautiful sounds.

This exhibit coincides with a
performance by Wherligig,
the Carroll-based traditional Celtic and Nordic acoustic ensemble, who will perform on Saturday, June
29 at 8 pm using several instruments from the exhibit.

Also on exhibit in the
Community Gallery are artworks by members of the Carroll County Camera Club in a show titled “Lens Art”
featuring new works in a variety of photographic styles.

The public is invited to a … reception for both exhibits on Thursday,
June 20, 2019 from 5 to 7 pm
.
Complimentary hors d'oeuvres and cash bar will be part of the festivities. The
exhibit is free and open to the public.

Respectfully submitted Councilmember
Kevin Dayhoff. Any questions, never hesitate to be in touch.

Heather DeWees, delivered the oath of office

Heather DeWees, the Carroll County Clerk of the Court, delivered the oath of office to incoming Westminster Councilwoman Ann Thomas Gilbert, Kevin Earl Dayhoff, and returning Councilman Greg Pecoraro, at last night's Westminster Mayor and Common Council Biennial Organizational meeting. This, after a wonderfully positive municipal election. We look forward to Jessica Laird, Steven Colella, and Kate Carter, who also ran in the election, staying involved with the city; and the day when they will take a seat at the council table. And a big thanks to Madame Clerk DeWees for going out of her way to be there for us and swear us into office. What a class act. 20May2019

Koffee with Kevin at Birdie’s Café May 4, 2019

Koffee with Kevin at Birdie’s Café May 4, 2019
Friday, April 26, 2019
Come have Koffee with Kevin Dayhoff at Birdie’s Café https://www.facebook.com/birdiescafe/ on May 4th, from 5:30 to 8 p.m. for light refreshments and conversation.
I am running for one of the three seats available in the upcoming May 14th Westminster city election. Please stop by to spend some time with our friends and neighbors to talk about Westminster – what you like and what you would like to see improved.
There will be plenty of Birdie’s great coffee and light refreshments available. Many folks have asked for a get together to talk about the election. This is your chance. Let us know if you are coming so that Sherri can make arrangements to have enough food available. We are looking forward to see you.
There is no charge for this event. For those who have asked – if you would like to make a contribution to help defray the costs of the event – speak with Sherri directly. I just want to concentrate on having a great event and I want to concentrate on the election campaign.
Birdie’s café is the epicenter of cool in Westminster, MD. Birdie’s café is owned by Westminster native Sherri Hosfeld Joseph, a local businesswoman and professional photographer. Birdie’s café is conveniently located at 233 East Main Street, Westminster, MD 21157 410-848.7931 http://www.birdiescoffee.com/; e-mail: coffeebird@comcast.nethttps://www.facebook.com/birdiescafe/
This is a strictly non-partisan event. Elections in the City of Westminster are non-partisan. More elections in Carroll County and Maryland ought to be non-partisan. I celebrate and maintain an open and affirming, inclusive platform that extends to Republicans, Democrats, Tories, Whigs, the LGBTQT community, folks from all faiths, folks who like cats, folks who like dogs, folks who like tea, folks who like coffee – it is all the same to me. Glad we got all that cleared-up.
My support of folks different than me is just simply called patriotism, common sense, and a reluctance to buy into hysteria and sensationalism. I am a Marine with issues – and I support human rights. Nothing complicated. Nothing to see here. Just move along.
If you have a different point of view, I am fine with that. I want everybody to be happy. I want you to be happy. As long as folks are nice to me – I love different points of view and again, as long as people are nice to me, I go out of my way to talk to folks who disagree with me. If you really do not like living here it makes me sad. I love Westminster. I suggest you move, so someone can take your place that wants to roll-up their sleeves and lend a hand. Westminster and Carroll County may be a great place to live – but we sure do have lots of work to do. And we need all hands on deck.
I offer experience, energy, accessibility, vision, fiscally prudent, and socially responsible leadership.
I have a thorough knowledge of the history and traditions of the city with a keen eye for some future changes.
It would be an honor to have the opportunity to take another turn as a Westminster elected official.
This has been paid for by Dayhoff for Westminster, Caroline Babylon – Treasurer.

Kevin Dayhoff, Westminster Common Council Candidate 2019

Kevin E. Dayhoff Candidate for the Westminster Common Council – May 14th, 2019

Community Media Center Candidate Profile - 12:30 pm Saturday, April 27, 2019 at the Community Media Center located at 1301 Washington Road, Westminster MD.

+++++++++++++++++++++++++

Hi, I am Kevin Dayhoff and I am running for one of the three open Westminster city council seats available in the upcoming May 14th city election.

I previously served as the Westminster mayor from 2001-2005. And a council member from 1999-2001. Folks tell me that I did a good job.

I am a retired farmer, business owner, historian, fire and police chaplain, artist, and writer. I would like to roll up my sleeves, work hard, and put all those experiences to work and do it again.

I would like to take another turn working for the community in City Hall. I know the community, its citizens, its history, and traditions – and have a keen eye for some future changes. I offer experience, energy, accessibility, vision, a fresh perspective, new ideas, and fiscally prudent and socially responsible leadership.

I am convinced I can make a contribution and make a difference.

The opportunity to serve as an elected or appointed official in a community like Westminster is a special privilege and responsibility. There are many ways that a person can serve our community. You can volunteer with service clubs, civic and non-profit organizations, recreational programs, or help out at your place of worship.

Historically, since the early days of our city, various folks in the community have taken turns on the city council. This has been the case ever since the days when folks served as a trustee for the Union Meeting House – the seat of government years before Westminster was incorporated in 1818.

In the past 14-years since I left office in 2005, I have remained active and served the community in other ways – primarily with my job as a newspaper reporter writing history. I have also volunteered at my church, the NAACP, and the Westminster Fire Company. It was good to take a break and let other folks have a turn.

Our current leadership has done a good job. I would like to build upon all their hard work and successes. However, at the same time, I'm concerned that in some ways, the city lost a little of its focus and needs to get back to basics. Especially when it comes to supporting public safety – the fire company, the police department, and public works.

I look forward to supporting our historic downtown shopping and business district by working to continue to attract special events, businesses, shopping and local jobs.

I believe that we need to maintain a continued emphasis on municipal and business infrastructure improvements –such as developing more water resources and maintaining our roads, sidewalks, trails – and recreational opportunities.

A number of folks in the community have approached me and asked if I would like to take another turn. After some thought and discussion with various friends who are city, county and state officials, I am convinced that by working together, we can move Westminster and Carroll County to another level – and take the community to that next step.

I remain positive and optimistic that we can seize a number of opportunities that are available at this point in the city’s history, shake some things up, give it a fresh coat of paint, and makes some things happen.

Please consider voting for me on May 14th. I promise to work hard for you.

Condemnations of The New York Times antisemitic cartoon

Hat tip: Julie Lenarz, “If an openly anti-Semitic cartoon
makes it into the international edition of @nytimes, you know how far Jew-hate
has creeped back into the mainstream. This cartoon was handpicked, signed off,
published. Not an honest mistake.”

Jerusalem Post Diaspora: FLOOD OF CONDEMNATIONS OF NEW YORK TIMES FOR ANTISEMITIC CARTOON

Congressmen join former ambassador to Israel and journalists in slamming the newspaper.

BY SETH J. FRANTZMAN   APRIL 29, 2019

Condemnations of The New York Times increased over the weekend after the paper’s international edition published an antisemitic cartoon. The offensive image was of a blind US President Donald Trump wearing a yarmulke, being walked by a dog with the face of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and wearing a Star of David collar. Despite the paper calling it an “error of judgment” to publish it, congressmen and Jewish organizations joined the chorus of outrage.
