This cartoon was pinned to my desk for many-many years and
it never ceased to make me smile – for many different reasons at different
times in my life.
First of all, I just thought the overly-emotional artist in
the piece was so pretentious that it made me laugh. Oh, to think of how many artists
I have known over the years that sincerely though that the sun and the universe
revolved around them and their every whim feeling, and desire.
Secondly, the context of the artist’s studio frequently
reminded me of my artist’s and writer’s workshop on the farm before Caroline
saved me and dragged me kicking and screaming to safety.
I hope that none of my artist and writer friends have a “crummy”
holiday. And if you do, get over your bad self and roll-up your sleeves and go
out there and act on your feelings by making a difference. Just saying.
I hope that my artist and writer friends and colleagues out
there have a Happy Hanukkah, and a Merry Christmas and a great holiday season.
Now where did I put that bottle of ibuprofen? Where’s my coffee? I need more peanut butter. Am I out of jelly again? Oh, another rejection letter for my collection? Darn it; I liked that short story. What do you mean you did not like my use of semi-colons? Semi-colons are my friends. What do you mean the dead character was clumsy and the plot did not pass the suspension of disbelief? Just sit on it – it’s a good story. Where is my dejected ‘rejection’ file? Whatever.
