"Free press is essential in terms of telling the truth and allowing people to know exactly what's happening. It's essential that everybody have a voice and that everybody is represented. That's the job of news. We're here to help democracy." -- SPJ FOI Committee Chair Danielle McLean
I am enjoying my lunch today with a new friend. However, the conversation is not all it was quacked-up to be. Just saying. I am pondering that at the moment it is my emotional support duck. I hope the airline ticket counter attendant doesn't make me flush 'Dante, the Duck,' down the drain. 13Mar2108
Update: Too funny. Since I have not fed the duck anything, it is now sitting on my foot, starring me in the eye, and quacking up a storm - and I mean loudly. I wonder if I am in danger?

Led Zeppelin When The Levee Breaks by Zepparella https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xH-_9cwdLug
My column this weekend is on Robert Russa Moton, the Great 1927
Mississippi Flood, and Led Zeppelin – somewhat in that order… Until the piece
is put up on the web, please enjoy - “Kansas Joe McCoy and Memphis Minnie When
the Levee Breaks - Famous 1927 Mississippi River Flood.” “Original recorded
version of the song later made famous by Led Zeppelin. I made the slide show
from a combination of pictures of the artists and pictures of the famous 1927
flood that affected the Mississippi river valley and delta.”
Actually, the ramifications of the 1927 Mississippi Flood
remain one of the most horrific moments in American history – but in true
Southern Gothic literature style, I like the picture of the dog at 2:04… https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=swhEa8vuP6U

I have been a freelancer since 2004, 2,000 stories later, I
am still trudging along. It is a life my wife and agreed upon. Fortunately, she
has a good job – and she knew she was marrying an artist and a writer… I do not
have to eat at soup kitchens, but I keep a list at the ready. In the end, I
would not have it any other way. I love my life. I love to write. Thanks for
writing this story. The glass is always half-full and every sentence ends with
a semi-colon at the ready. AUGUST 12, 2017 AT 6:16 AM

CC 181st birthday celebration: At the Historical Society's 181st birthday celebration at Grace Hall in Grace Lutheran Church in Westminster. This year's event features musicians David and Ginger Hildebrand who are performing "the patriotic songs, ballads, marches, dance tunes and theater songs popular in early Maryland while wearing appropriate period costumes," as explained by an excellent article by Michel Elben in the Carroll County Times the other day: http://www.carrollcountytimes.com/news/local/cc-weekahead-011418-story.html 20Jan2018
The importance of packing light cannot be overemphasized,
but, for your own good, I’ll try. You’ll never meet a traveler who, after five
trips, brags: “Every year I pack heavier.” The measure of a good traveler is
how light he or she travels. You can’t travel heavy, happy, and cheap. Pick
two.
One Bag, That’s It
My self-imposed limit is 20 pounds in a 9" × 21" ×
14" carry-on-size bag (it’ll fit in your airplane’s overhead bin, at least
on your transatlantic flight — though many European airlines restrict hand
luggage to even smaller weights and dimensions). At my company, we’ve taken
tens of thousands of people of all ages and styles on tours through Europe. We
allow only one carry-on bag. For many, this is a radical concept: 9" ×
21" × 14"? That’s my cosmetics kit! But they manage, and they’re glad
they did. After you enjoy that sweet mobility and freedom, you’ll never go any
other way.

Hello my friends, family, and fans! Thank you for following me here all these years. My posts have been a bit lagging to non-existent. (Sorry about that!) But now, I'm starting fresh with a new website and a new blog location.

Question: I need a little help here. When you are in the middle of writing a story; do you always have to plug in the toaster oven for it to work? #amwriting

Once again this year we followed a family tradition to get together for a musical, opera, or theater event at places like the Kennedy Center in Washington DC or the Hippodrome in Baltimore. In the past we have taken cruises together or traveled to New York as a family. This year we went to see Les Miserables, by Victor Hugo, at 'The National Theater,' 1321 Pennsylvania Ave. NW 27Dec2017. Before the play, we shared dinner at Occidental Grill and Seafood, 1475 Pennsylvania Ave. NW, Washington DC 20004 www.occidentaldc.com 27Dec2017. We really enjoyed the excellent production of Les Miserables – and really enjoyed the family time together.
