‘The Rodney Kelley Experience’ Friday, September 29, 2017 at 7:30 pm

Carroll County Arts Council in Westminster: A Night of Jazz & Blues with ‘The Rodney Kelley Experience’ Friday, September 29, 2017 at 7:30 pm

Scheduled: Friday, September 29, 2017     7:30 pm

Cost:  $20 advance / $25 day of the show

Location: The Carroll Arts Center, 91 West Main Street, Westminster, MD, 21157

The excitement of hot jazz and blues comes to the Carroll Arts Center with The Rodney Kelley Experience. One of the hardest working bands in the Baltimore metro area, The Rodney Kelley Experience appears regularly with high energy performances at area nightclubs, festivals, and corporate events; this will be the first visit by the quintet to the Westminster area.

Playing and performing on the guitar for over 35 years, Rodney Kelley has been committed to straight ahead jazz, his mainstay, but he has been known to not only dabble in contemporary jazz, some blues but also a bit of rock (Jimi Hendrix style). Easily switching from electric to acoustic guitar, and adding vocals on occasion, multi-talented Kelley is a fan of legendary jazz artist Wes Montgomery and excitedly admits the influence of the late master guitarist on his own performances. A phenomenal performer, Kelley frequently discusses the benefits of great live performance to build and continuing to grow the audience for jazz.

In the Baltimore area, The Rodney Kelley Experience has appeared at Artscape, Gordon Center for the Performing Arts, The National Aquarium, The Heritage Art Festivals, Harborplace, The Tremont Plaza Hotel, Clyburn Arboretum, WBFF TV, The Walters Art Gallery, School 33, Club 347, and for a number of corporations such as Baltimore Gas & Electric, The FOXO Corporation, and many others.

A Night of Jazz & Blues is the third presentation by WEAA FM’s Your Girl Cheryl & YGC Productions this year at the Carroll Arts Center that also brought the annual MOTOWN & MORE: The Legacy Lives production in April and saxophonist Art Sherrod, Jr in August. The final presentation, MOTOWN & MORE: A Holiday Celebration is scheduled for early December at the Carroll Arts Center.

The nicely dressed tree may be found at the Winchester Exchange at 15 East Main St

The tree all dressed-up in the knitted attire does make me smile. The nicely dressed tree may be found at the Winchester Exchange at 15 East Main Street in historic downtown Westminster. I take my hat off for the folks who dressed the tree. Each of us needs to do whatever we can to promote the community we love. The best progress comes from a positive approach. Pam and Charlie at Buttersburg Inn on Sat..Sept. 9, 2017

Pam and Charlie at Buttersburg Inn on Sat..Sept. 9, 2017. The past several weeks have way too busy and I cannot recall if I posted this picture of my sister Pam - and Charlie, over at the Buttersburg Inn, or not. I really like this picture...

Caroline, Grammy and I went to dinner at the Buttersburg Inn, in Union Bridge. It was really good to see Jim and Frank, Pam Zappardino and Charlie Collyer there. The place was full. Our dinner was great. Friday, Sept. 8, 2017

Coca Cola Syrup distributed by Rasinsky's Pharmacy, 30 West Main Street, Westminster, Md Tilden 8-7100.

I found this in an upper cupboard in the family kitchen. I was fascinated that the ingredients listed on the label read, "Prepared with sugar and water; phosphoric acid, caffeine, extractives from coca leaves (cocaine removed) and cola nuts, and other flavoring materials, colored with caramel."

Sadly there is no date on the bottle anywhere.

Caroline and I had a late lunch at Mollies Cafe, 199 East Main Street, Westminster, MD 21157 We really liked our lunch - and especially the friendly, homely atmosphere of the restaurant. It reminded me of places to eat in Westminster when I was growing-up in town. We really recommend Mollies. Thurs. Sept. 14, 2017

Bart Walters’ “Wapiti Circle,” in Westminster, Colorado

Caroline and I are visiting Bart Walters' "Wapiti Circle," in Westminster, Colorado. Thurs. August 24, 2017. It appears that municipalities in Colorado have a vibrant public art public policy. Westminster Colorado is huge, both in size and population. There are approximately 100,000 folks living here, just north of Denver, in what appears, at first impression, to be in reclaimed desert, within sight of the Rocky Mountains.

Of course, Mr. Walters is a local Westminster, Md. artist. Caroline and I visited the elks featured in this sculpture display at Reed St. and Walnut Creek, when they were being created in Westminster Md.

The sculptures are magnificent.

Jad and David Fair

Published on Jul 20, 2006: Some say Half Japanese were the world's greatest underground band. Jad and David Fair started the band HALF JAPANESE in their bedroom in Uniontown, Maryland in 1975. Though neither could play a single note on any instrument, they went on to record one of the greatest albums of all time.

Last Sunday, July 2, 2017 at the 10:30 in the morning service at Grace Lutheran Church

Last Sunday, July 2, 2017 at the 10:30 in the morning service at  Grace Lutheran Church. Pastor Martha spoke to us about Matthew 10: 40-42 "Whoever welcomes you welcomes me … and whoever gives even a cup of cold water to one …"

She asked the question, "What does it mean in our world today to offer a cup of cold water? How do we provide a compassionate welcome to others?"

She finished her sermon by saying, "I leave you today with a challenge for this week: Look and listen for concrete examples of people offering hospitality and a cup of water to others.

"And I urge you to offer God's grace when you see your neighbor in need…"

This is why I go to church, to learn insights that I can use in the following week. Just saying.
