Figures. We all have them.  They come in different sizes and shapes, ages, colors and attitudes but they are all full of life, breath, flesh and bones.  “Full Figure” honors the human form in all its presence: moving, resting, thinking, working, posing. From the ancients until now, artists have been fascinated with creating likenesses of humans. Athletic poses, historic figures, balletic form, stylish and otherwise created in realism, abstract, painted, sculpted and mixed media will offer the viewer a glimpse of “us” and the glory of our “full figures.

One of the highlights will be a portrait of Anna Ella Carroll, after whose family, Carroll Country was named. This painting reveals a tour, not only through Civil War history, but a history of the artistic development of the human form as well.

Artists include:
Nancy Abeles, Washington DC
Walter Bartman, Braddock Heights, MD
Laura Era, Cambridge, MD
Peter Eide, New Windsor, MD
Sara Knox, Hagerstown, MD
Elaine Lozier, Bethesda, MD
Devin Mack, Towson, MD
Deborah Nell, East Berlin, PA
Cathy Sawdey, Ellicott City, MD
Nick Wenderoth, Westminster, MD

Gifts

“Being raised in an unstable household makes you understand that the world doesn’t exist to accommodate you, which, in Hannah’s observation, is something a lot of people struggle to understand well into adulthood. It makes you realize how quickly a situation can shift, how danger really is everywhere.

But crises, when they occur, do not catch you off guard; you have never believed you live under the shelter of some essential benevolence. And an unstable childhood makes you appreciate calmness and not crave excitement.

To spend a Saturday afternoon mopping your kitchen floor while listening to an opera on the radio, and to go that night to an Indian restaurant with a friend and be home by nine o’ clock—these are enough. They are gifts.” —       Curtis Sittenfeld
